Montecristo, one of the most respected brands in the Cuban cigar world, has exclusively released the Montecristo Carmen 250 Aniversario Sevilla cigar to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Real Fábrica de Tabacos de Sevilla. This limited-edition humidor, released in 2022, pays homage to the historic tobacco factory and showcases Montecristo’s new vitola.

The Real Fábrica de Tabacos de Sevilla, built in 1770, is considered the first tobacco factory in Europe. Originally producing snuff in 1758, the factory expanded its product range to include cigars in the latter half of the 18th century. This expansion helped strengthen the relationship between Spain and Cuba, a relationship celebrated in this commemorative release. Today, the historic building houses the University of Seville, but its legacy as a tobacco factory remains influential.

To commemorate this milestone, Habanos SA’s Spanish distributor, Tabacalera SLU, collaborated with ST Dupont and La Cartuja de Sevilla to create 250 exquisite humidors, each containing 100 Havana cigars. These humidors, crafted from ST Dupont’s cedar and walnut wood and adorned with a ceramic replica of La Cartuja de Sevilla’s Royal Tobacco Factory front, are true works of art.

The Montecristo 250 Aniversario Sevilla humidor introduces a new vitola: the Montecristo Carmen, commonly known as the Double Crown humidor, measuring 180 mm in length with a 49 ring gauge. This vitola, previously known as Pacos, was used in the Hoyo de Monterrey Escogidos and other exclusive Edición Regional editions. These cigars, produced by the five master rollers at the H. Upmann factory in Havana, Cuba, feature the standard Montecristo band and two additional bands, one bearing Vitola’s name and the other depicting the main facade of the Royal Tobacco Factory in Seville.

The cigar’s name is inspired by Carmen, a character from Georges Bizet’s opera of the same name, symbolizing the allure and power associated with the factory’s long history. This release not only celebrates the factory’s 250-year history but also pays homage to the cultural ties between Spain and Cuba.

Each cigar box includes a meticulously edited book detailing the history of the Montecristo brand, the Real Fábrica de Tabacos de Sevilla in Seville, the myth of Carmen, and the contributions of the collaborators who made this product possible.

This limited edition, exclusively for the Spanish market, is a testament to the enduring legacy of Montecristo and the legendary history of the Royal Tobacco Factory in Seville. It is a celebration of history, art, and the enduring bond between Spain and Cuba.
